On May 14th 2009, CANTERBURY COUNTRY celebrated its 9th Birthday, highlighting its position as Sydney’s most popular regular country music show.
On the second Thursday of every month, members and guests of Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Club join hosts Bob Howe and the Hillbilly Heaven Band with Nicki Gillis, to enjoy a variety of styles from classic Honky-Tonk to modern sounds, and dance to everything from the Texas Two-Step to a Country Waltz. Each month features crowd-pleasing artists and a different theme, including the Hank Williams Birthday Bash (September), Tomkins Guitar Showcase (November) and in March, the presentation by Frank Ifield of his International Spur Award.
The May CANTERBURY COUNTRY Birthday show pictured here, featured the irrepressible legend Lucky Starr duetting with the exciting new sounds of his son Craig Morrison, plus young rising star Kaylah Anne. To the extra delight of the audience, surprise guests included the entire Nicki Gillis Band and world-travellers Jetty Road!
